Iranian athletes have won the title at the 1st Asian University Taekwondo Championship which was held in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
The Iranian outfit clinched the championship after earning five gold medals in the event which ended on Tuesday night.
Iran's Navid Sajjadi won a gold medal after he defeated his rival from Kazakhstan in the 68kg category on Tuesday.
Mehran Asgari bagged another gold medal for the Iranian side by beating his Kazak opponent in the 80kg class on the same day. On Monday, the Iranian five-member team bagged three gold medals through Sajjad Khoshsirat, Davoud Abdolrezaei and Meisam Rafei.

Dr. Kamran Daneshjoo, Ministry of science, research and technology said: “historically, it has been found that by having university sports prospered, sports throughout country will be significantly popular. Referring to student’s universiade, he pointed out that all taken efforts can be managed better through precise planning. He specified that those who do regular exercise and activities, have better mental and physical capabilities in individual and social improvement. Some university sports are also considered with championships perspective and it has been shown in some countries that national athletes have been selected among university students”. Ministry of science expressed that having interaction and cooperation with physical education organization in holding special meeting will be begun less than 2 month later and cooperation workbook between these two organizations will be signed and accordingly, commitment and capacities will be clear. Daneshjoo said that the mentioned workbook can provide athletes with encouragement regarding to have healthy competition for sport development in country. |

The 2nd National Olympiad of university sports were held by participation of 5 major parts of higher education including Ministry of Sciences, Research and Technology, Medical Science Ministry, Payamnoor University, Applied Science University and Islamic Azad University . In the opening ceremony ,Dr.Kamran Daneshjoo, minister of Sciences, Research, Research and Technology was a key speaker and a summary of his speech has been mentioned flowingly: · Importance of sport in our ancient culture and history. · Healthy body equals healthy mind ·Giving more importance to university sports ·Cooperating with physical education organization and other related ones to achieve physical education objectives ·Planning effective programs for making sports at universities more effective and comprehensive. Female participants compete in following sports:Handball, Footsal, Basketball, Vollyball, Taekwondo, Badminton and Karate Males participants compete in following sports Handball Basketball, Footsal, Volleyball, Taekwondo, Badminton , Karate, Chess and wrestling. These tournaments were organized under supervision of National University Sports Federation of Iran annually. It has been started since March 3 ,2010 and will be finished within 2 weeks. |

Iranian artist, Mojtaba Alizadeh has received the first award of the 2009 FISU International Poster Design Contest.
According to IRNA, Alizadeh received a 2,500-euro award and a FISU Certificate of Excellence. Portugal and china were announced as the event's second and third award winners respectively.
Held by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), the contest was held in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of FISU and the 50th anniversary of the International University Sports Week, known as Universiade. Alizadeh's poster will be unveiled and used as the official commemorative poster in July 2009 at the 25th Summer Universiade in Belgrade, Serbia

National University Championships (2009) attracts a growing number of participants. (held every two years). These championships were held under the auspices of The National University Sports Federation of IRAN.70 universities, 3893 athletic students in 13 different sports participated at these championships during 4 months. - 2050 male athletic students competed in 12 sports: chess, football, futsal, and wrestling (Free style and Greco-roman), judo, karate, track and field, handball, taekwondo, swimming, tennis table, badminton. - 1843 female athletic students competed in 11 sports: Futsal, karate, basketball, track and field, handball, taekwondo, swimming, tennis table, badminton, shooting and chess. It’s to be noted that all female students participated with considering Islamic vein. In addition to encouraging friendship and understanding, NUSF of IRAN provides an opportunity for top athletic students to being selected for sending to close future events in the World University Championships. On the strength of the experience gained at the pervious internal and external events, the Iran University Sports Federation is now supporting the universities as it takes charge of the national university sport for growing number of participants in university sport events and increasing the quality of games. |
